10 Topics of SrimadBhagavatham
the ten subject matters dealt with in
the text of the Bhāgavatam. Of these, the tenth is the substance, and
the other nine are categories derived from the substance. These ten
subjects are listed as follows:
(1) Sarga: the
first creation by Viṣṇu, the bringing forth of the five gross material
elements, the five objects of sense perception, the ten senses, the
mind, the intelligence, the false ego and the total material energy, or
universal form.
(2) Visarga: the secondary
creation, or the work of Brahmā in producing the moving and unmoving
bodies in the universe (brahmāṇḍa).
(3) Sthāna: the
maintenance of the universe by the Personality of Godhead, Viṣṇu.
Viṣṇu’s function is more important and His glory greater than Brahmā’s
and Lord Śiva’s, for although Brahmā is the creator and Lord Śiva the
destroyer, Viṣṇu is the maintainer.
(4) Poṣaṇa:
special care and protection for devotees by the Lord. As a king
maintains his kingdom and subjects but nevertheless gives special
attention to the members of his family, so the Personality of Godhead
gives special care to His devotees who are souls completely surrendered
to Him.
(5) Ūti: the urge for creation, or
initiative power, that is the cause of all inventions, according to the
necessities of time, space and objects.
(6)
Manv-antara: the periods controlled by the Manus, who teach regulative
principles for living beings who desire to achieve perfection in human
life. The rules of Manu, as described in the Manu-saṁhitā, guide the way
to such perfection.
(7) Īśānukathā: scriptural
information regarding the Personality of Godhead, His incarnations on
earth and the activities of His devotees. Scriptures dealing with these
subjects are essential for progressive human life.
(8)
Nirodha: the winding up of all energies employed in creation. Such
potencies are emanations from the Personality of Godhead who eternally
lies in the Kāraṇa Ocean. The cosmic creations, manifested with His
breath, are again dissolved in due course.
(9)
Mukti: liberation of the conditioned souls encaged by the gross and
subtle coverings of body and mind. When freed from all material
affection, the soul, giving up the gross and subtle material bodies, can
attain the spiritual sky in his original spiritual body and engage in
transcendental loving service to the Lord in Vaikuṇṭhaloka or Kṛṣṇaloka.
When the soul is situated in his original constitutional position of
existence, he is said to be liberated. It is possible to engage in
transcendental loving service to the Lord and become jīvan-mukta, a
liberated soul, even while in the material body.
(10)
Āśraya: the Transcendence, the summum bonum, from whom everything
emanates, upon whom everything rests, and in whom everything merges
after annihilation. He is the source and support of all. The āśraya is
also called the Supreme Brahman, as in the Vedānta-sūtra (athāto brahma
jijñāsā, janmādy asya yataḥ

Pizza
Wife: Don’t put so many clothes for wash today.
Husband: Why ?
She said : Maid has said she won’t come for two days.
Husband :Why ?
Wife : She said she is going to meet her grand daughter during Ganpati festival.
Husband : OK, Will not put too many clothes.
Wife: And, Shall I give her Rs. 500 for Ganpati? Festival bonus?
Husband: Why? Diwali is approaching, we will give her at that time.
Wife:
Oh no dear. She is poor. Going to meet her daughter and grand daughter,
so she will also feel nice. Moreover, everything has become so
expensive these days. How will she able to celebrate festival?
Husband : You ! I don’t know why you become emotional so easily.
Wife
: Oh dear, don’t worry. I am going to cancel today’s program of
ordering Pizza. Why unnecessarily blow away Rs. 500 on eight pieces of
stale bread.
Husband : Wow. Great. Snatching Pizza from us and giving to the maid !
Maid returned after three days and got busy in mopping and dusting.
Husband asked her.. So, how was the vacation ?
Maid : Very nice sahib.. Didi had given Rs. 500 .. festival bonus.
Husband : So you went and met your daughter ? and also met your grand daughter ?
Maid: yes sahib. Enjoyed a lot and spent Rs 500 in two days time.
Husband : Really ? Ok so what did you do with Rs. 500?
Maid
: Rs. 150 for dress for grand daughter, Rs 40 for a doll, bought sweets
worth Rs 50 for daughter, Rs 50 as offering to Deity in temple, Rs 60
towards bus fare, Rs 25 for bangles for daughter, bought a nice belt
worth Rs 50 for son-in-law, balance Rs 75 gave to daughter to buy copy
and pencil for grand daughter. Maid gave a full account of the expenses
incurred.
Husband : So much in Rs 500?
With
surprise, he started thinking. The eight pieces of Pizza appeared in
front of his eyes and each one of them acted as a hammer started
pricking his consciousness. For the price of one Pizza, he started
comparing the expenses his maid had incurred during her visit to her
daughter.
The eight pieces of Pizza floated in front of his eyes.
First piece ... dress for the child
Second piece … towards sweets..
Third piece … towards offering to the deity in the temple.
Fourth piece ... towards bus fare.
Fifth piece ... towards doll.
Sixth piece ... towards bangles,
Seventh piece... towards belt for the son-in-law.
Eighth piece... towards copy and pencil.
So
far he had observed pizza only from one angle. He turned it upside down
and observe how it looks like from the other side but today his maid
showed him the other side of the pizza. The eight pieces of pizza showed
him the real meaning of life and the meaning of “Spending for life” or
“Life for spending”.
Think about it.

Meenakshi amma
A British Collector named Rose Peter was appointed as Collector of Madurai from 1812 to 1828.
Though a Christian by faith, he respected all faiths including Hinduism and also honored local practices.
Collector
Peter was the temple administrator and conducted all his duties with
sincerity and honesty and respected the religious sentiments of all
people.
Collector Rous
Peter respected and treated people of all faiths equally and this noble
trait earned him the popular nickname *‘Peter Pandian'*
*Goddess Meenakshi Amman Temple* was situated between Collector Peter's residence and office.
Everyday
he used to go to the office by his horse and while crossing the temple,
he got down from his horse, removed the hat and his shoes and crossed
the whole path on his foot.
*Through this small gesture he expressed his reverence to the Goddess!*
One day there was a heavy downpour in Madurai city and River Vaigai was in spate.
Collector
was sleeping in his residence and was suddenly disturbed and woken up
by the sound of anklets and he left his bed to find out from where the
sound had came.
He saw a small girl wearing pattuvastrams and precious ornaments and addressing him as *'Peter come this way'.*
And he came out to follow her and was running behind the little girl to find out who she was!
As
he came out of the house and was running, he was shocked as he turned
to see behind him, his residence (whole bungalow) being washed away by
the flood waters of River Vaigai!
He turned to follow the girl but she disappeared into thin air!
*He saw that the girl ran without any shoes and was wearing anklets.*
He beleived that his devotion for Mother *Goddess Meenakshi* had saved his life.
Later,
he wished to give a gift to Lord Meenakshi Amman & consulted the
priest of temple and ordered for *a pair of golden shoes for Goddess
Meenakshi Amman*.
It is thus that the pair of Paadhukams consisting of
412 rubies,
72 emeralds,
and 80 diamonds
were made and donated to the temple.
His name was sculpted as "Peter" on thr shoes.
Till this day the pair of Paadhukams are known as *'Peter Paadhukam'*
Every year at the time of 'Chaitra Festival', utsava moorthy of Goddess Meenakshi Amman is decorated with the Padukams.
This
is the incidence that had happened 200 years back in 1818 and for all
those who have faith and belief Goddess Meenakshi had been benevolent
with her blessings.
