On the auspicious appearance day of Lord Sri Balarama, let us try to hear some of His glories while we Fast Till Noon,
Bala means spiritual strength; Rama means one who gives all pleasures.
He is elder brother of Lord Sri Krishna. As the elder brother of Krishna, Balarama is the object of Krishna’s love and respect.
No one can approach Krishna without first getting the mercy of Balarama.
He is the eternal companion of Sri Krishna. He came as Lakshmana with
Rama and later as Nityananda Prabhu with Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Born on the full-moon day of Shravana (August) at Gokul.
Son of Rohini and Vasudeva, seventh child in the womb of Devaki.
He is also known as Baladeva, Sankarshana, Rohini-nandana and _Douji_.
He wears blue garments and a garland of forest flowers.
He married Srimathi Revati Devi, daughter of King Raivata.
He was equally affectionate to both the Pandavas and the Kauravas.
He accepted both Duryodhana and Bhima as His disciples.
He chastised Kauravas by dragging Hastinapura (New Delhi) into the Ganges by His plow.
At the time of Mahabharata, He refused to take sides and instead went on an extended pilgrimage to the holy places.
He killed demon Dhenukasura, a powerful ass in Talavana, one of the twelve forests of Vrindavana.
He killed demon Pralambasura, who was disguised as a cowherd boy.
He Killed Dvivida, the Gorilla demon at Raivataka Mountain.
He killed demon Balvala at forest of Naimisharanya.
He killed proud Romaharshana by touching him with a blade of grass at Naimisharanya.
He gives us spiritual strength to cross over the problems in our journey of spiritual life.
He is the original spiritual master, and any one desiring to make spiritual progress must first get the mercy of Lord Balarama.
Devotees fast till noon and pray to Lord Balarama to bestow the spiritual strength needed to practice spiritual life.
