An Interview with God by Dhirasanta Dasa Goswami

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?”, God asked.

“If you have the time”, I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity. What questions do you have in mind for me?”

“Well, what surprises you the most about humankind?”

God answered...

“That they get bored with childhood, rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money, and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live in neither the present nor the future.”

"That they have abandoned their commitment to raising children and exchanged it for walking and talking to their cats and dogs.

"That they live as if they will never die, and die as though they had never lived.”

And then I asked...“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons you want Your children to learn?”

"Do not expect respect but give respect to others."

"Seek not to be understood but seek to understand."

"Do not demand to be loved, but aspire to extend your love to others."

"To lose money, prestige, health or even life itself is not such a loss. To lose faith is the greatest loss."

"Is there anything else you would like your children to know?"

"For My devotee, death is not the end but just the beginning. Beginning of entrance into a realm of eternity. But for the atheists and the materialists, death is simply an end. An end of everything they identify with, thinking it is everlasting".

"So two things are very important: a very mature and honest understanding of the dangers and sufferings of material existence and faith that My holy names have descended to give the eternal soul supreme shelter".

"Thank you for your time," I said humbly.

God smiled and said:

“Just reassure your readers that I am always available if they want Me, however I will never interfere with the independence I have given them.” I am waiting anxiously for them to return back home whenever they choose to do so.

Japa Yajna - Nama Yajna

yajnΓ€nam japa-yajno 'smi : Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa] – B.Gita 10.25

How Japa is considered as Yajna:

1.      All participants can become priests.

2.      Make your ears the sacrificial pit.

3.      The sacrificial spoon or ladle is your tongue.

4.      Use that tongue to pour the ghee of the Holy Name into the ears and

5.      Then you will see how in your heart the fire of bhakti will rise high and strong.

I wish you all the best in your efforts in this beautiful nama yajna!

CURIOSITY

I was in the first-class train compartment with Srila Prabhupada. He was switching the light switch on and off, and then the fan. He raised and lowered the small table by the window. I wanted to serve him, so I said, "Prabhupada, can I find something for you? Do you want me to switch on the fan?"

"No, I am just seeing all the mechanics," he said, switching the lights and fan on and off and on again.

"I LOVE MY DISCIPLES"

From the train compartment window I was gazing out over Kurukshetra, the same fields where Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna.

"Krishna gives mercy to everyone equally." Prabhupada said, shortly after we had Kurukshetra Station. "Krishna pours rains on the stones and ocean even though they don't need it, Krishna is so merciful." He continued, "I also distribute my mercy equally. I love all my disciples."

"If some devotee thinks he is favored over another by me it is because he or she has done something, some good service, so I encourage them. However, I love all my disciples equally, even if they don't know it. I give credit where it is due, so again if some disciple does a wonderful service to Krishna, I reciprocate by pointing that out."

Vacation

If you ask someone, ‘How did you spend your vacation?’ and he says, ‘I sang, I danced, I talked, and I feasted,’ you will say, ‘Oh, very good! You had a good time on your vacation.’ That is our process of self-realization: singing Hare Krishna, dancing, feasting on prasada, and hearing the pastimes of the Lord and some nice philosophy. This process was given by Lord Chaitanya, and that is why he is considered to be the most merciful of all the avataras — the crown jewel.” —Jayapataka Swami
